Kakad Aarti (Kakada)

It is said that Kakada was started by Shiva and its there from ages. And somewhere in the middle it get lots however last four centuries or so it got revived again. It is a month long program, which starts at Kojagiri Pournima and ends at Tripuri Pournima. The aarti happens daily early in the morning from 5 till 7 AM. It contains sweet melodious bhajans mostly by Sant Tukaram and ends with beautiful Aarti. This traditional culture is mostly preserved in villages of Maharashtra.

Welcoming everywhere...

Today, I went to Zila Parishad Primary school in Bavdhan to arrange a Balchetana Shibir for children. The moment I said to the Head Master that I am from Art of Living Organization, immediate reaction on her face was broad smile :). People are having so much of hope from Art of Living and they truly believe that this will definitely make the life better and in-fact it indeed makes the life beautiful. Its a sign of relief for everybody.

Utiche Bhajan!

On 27 Apr, my friend Nilesh informed me about a late night Bhajan in Vithal mandir near Laxmi road. It happened to be first Saturday after Chaitra Poornima. Since I am fond of Bhajans and was keen on photographing this event I was enthusiastic to be there.

I reached on time and the temple was located on the Bajirao road, right near the Tulshi Bag entrance. All this years in Pune, I never noticed it :). When I reached already a bhajan was started and I guess it was the first one. In the center, there was on old man around the age of 70's singing. He carried unusual aura around him and depth in his voice. After the first Bhajan a young lad came and applied Chandan  lep (Sandalwood paste layer) on his forhead and out black ticka in between eye-brows. He applied the Chandan (Sandalwood paste) layer on his Veena also. Then he offered him a garland. The same procedure was applied on every participant's forhead. At first I thought this must be ritual to cool our head before singing bhajans.

Again the Bhajan's were started. Most of the bhajan's were Tukaram Bhajan with a classical touch. It lasted till 2AM.

Lastly, Prasad was distributed as dal-kairi koshimbir  and Phane ( sweet drink made out of raw mango). These are also known to be a cool for the body.

In the end, I actually came to know that this is known as Utiche Bhajan and every year in the month of Chaitra it is held. I also found that on the whole statue of Vitthal Rukmai was covered with Chandan layer (Sandalwood paste). May be this is to cool ourselves in the coming hot summer. There was a small Shiv-linga in the temple.

Later I found that the temple was quite old and it was built in 1808. It was built by Limbaraj Maharaj.

With this I am more curious on the various traditions followed in India and significance behind each one. I am very much keen on exploring them. I guess there must be thousands in India.

Heart and Head !

Today I came across wonderful lines by Swami Viveknanda, which I marked in his book few years back.
"The heart is great indeed; it is through the heart that come the great inspirations of life. I would a hundred times rather have a little heart and no brain than be all brains and no heart. Life is possible; progress is possible only through heart"

Back on Track!

Today on 1st Feb 2013, with Guruji's blessings I completed Bal-Chetna Shibir, for a 3 rd standard in Primary School, Bhugaon. I felt so much of satisfaction and enthusiasm. It was all set for me, just a step was needed from my side. When I went to the school, felt that they were actually waiting.

To my surprise, I could actually sing different bhajans :))! and that too once more for "Ganesh Sharanam"!. Children loved the most "Jai Jai Radha Raman".

Seva is our inherent nature. These children were very enthusiastic to offer me a helping hand to wrap up things after the course. They were all after me to visit their classroom which they decorated nicely. One of the student showed paintings drawn by her. All were bubbling with enthusiasm. There is so much of happiness in giving.

One of the students gave complement saying that "you taught nicely". What do you want more? I am happy. And yes forgot to mention, one of the students shared his experience that through this course I have decided to live friendly and rightly.
